From Postdoc to Research Faculty Crash Course

The ORT has partnered with Research Training Centres at participating Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN) hospitals; Toronto Metropolitan University; and University of Toronto to provide the Postdoc to Research Faculty Crash Course! This initiative aims to address the need for comprehensive support for postdocs as they embark on their journey toward applying and securing a research faculty position.

Developing Effective Mentorship Skills. A mentoring program for UHN graduate students and postdocs supervising summer students

Developing Effective Mentorship Skills Training Program

Every spring the ORT offers the Developing Effective Mentoring Skills program, to provide UHN graduate students and postdoctoral researchers an opportunity to enhance their skills to prepare for mentoring summer research students.

The mentoring training covers many themes including: Effective Communication, Aligning Expectations, Addressing Equity & Inclusion and Promoting Professional Development. Participants who attend all sessions receive a certificate of program completion.

Carpentries Instructor Training Program. Learn evidence-based practices for teaching software and data skills to your peers

Carpentries Instructor Training Program

The ORT partners with University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) to provide a Carpentries Instructor Training Program. The Carpentries teaches foundational coding and data science skills to researchers worldwide.

Through this program, UHN graduate students and postdoctoral researchers receive Carpentries Instructor Training to learn evidence-based training practices. They are also provided opportunities to build their skills teaching data and software workshops, with support from certified Carpentries instructors and the ORT staff.
