Congratulations to 2021 ORT Conference Grant awardee, Troy Francis! Troy is a graduate student in the labs of Dr. Trbovich and Dr. Rac and is exploring the medication use processes of hospitals using social network analysis to reveal the types of social interactions and relations between healthcare workers that contribute to diversion risk. He presented his research at the Networks 2021 Conference. Congratulations, Troy!

UofT Language Research Day 2021

The University of Toronto invites you to its first Graduate Language Research Day! Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with and be introduced to the diverse language-related research that takes place across departments, campuses and affiliated hospitals at UofT. The theme of the meeting is Language Research in a Virtual Context and includes keynote speaker, Dr. Marion Coumel, a Postdoctoral researcher in psycholinguistics at the University of Warwick (UK), student oral presentations, and a networking event.

Indigenous Research Methodologies
November 18 | 12:00 - 1:00 PM 

This UHN Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility seminar is aimed at helping researchers, staff and trainees who want to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities. During the seminar, Dr. Amy Shawanda will explore different Indigenous research methodologies and terminology. Attendees will learn how to integrate these methods in their research so they can foster relationships where researchers and Indigenous collaborators can co-create mutually beneficial research studies.

Recovering Better: Why Science must Choose to Include

TIER welcomes you to the Dr. Daniel C. Andreae President's lecture on The Future of Work with Honorable Kirsty Duncan, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North. Dr. Duncan's talk "Recovering Better: Why Science must Choose to Include" will explore the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on long-standing gender inequities and recommendations on how science should respond.

OSOTF/U of T/Vision Science Research Program

A $17.25 million endowment from the OSOTF/U of T/Vision Science Research Program-Toronto Western Hospital provides support for a number of graduate fellowships each year. The Vision Science Research Program provides support for MSc and PhD trainees from across the University of Toronto studying novel questions in vision science. Interested applicants must demonstrate financial need.

2022 John Charles Polanyi Prize
Apply by November 15 

 

To honour the achievement of John Charles Polanyi, recipient of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Ontario Government established a fund to award John Charles Polanyi Prizes annually to up to five outstanding researchers or scholars who are in the early stages of their careers and at Ontario universities. The prizes, each of which is valued at $20,000, will be conferred in the fall of 2022. They are available in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Economic Science, broadly defined. Applicants are to submit their application to their graduate unit or their supervisor’s affiliated graduate unit by November 15.

Mitacs Globalink Research Awards
Apply by December 1 | 5:00 PM PT

Mitacs is pleased to launch a special initiative: a competitive call for applications for the Mitacs Globalink Research Award specifically in the fields of Advanced Computing (Quantum Technologies and Artificial Intelligence), Achieving Net Zero Emissions, and Global Health.
 
Senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows will receive a $6,000 award to conduct a 12 to 24-week research project in a partner country.

Engineering Strategies and Practice Course
Submit proposals by December 1 

The Engineering Strategies and Practice (ESP) Course at U of T is seeking proposals from UHN groups for projects that will be given to a team of undergraduate engineering students to tackle over a semester. These projects can involve designs for a facility, a process, or a device.
