Exploring Careers for Postdocs

The UHN Postdoc Association (UHNPA) in partnership with the Office of Research Trainees (ORT) invites you to hear perspectives on different career paths for postdoctoral fellows including positions in academia, industry and government.

Hear from former postdoctoral fellows, Dr. Anna Cranston, Strategy Analyst, Jonex Global; Dr. Sean Lock, Assistant Professor, Brock; Dr. Darren O’Hara, Senior Scientist, Almac Discovery; and Dr. Anusha Ratneswaran, Clinical Evaluator at Health Canada as they share advice, offer tips and answer questions on the ins and outs of pursuing their career paths.

ORT Conference Participation Award

The submission period for the Office of Research Trainees (ORT) Conference Awards is now open. The ORT is pleased to offer a limited number of Conference Participation Awards to enable graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to participate in national and international conferences and share their research in oral and/or poster presentations. 

The value of individual awards will be up to $500 to be used for participation at conferences between May and August 2022.

Grey Literature Fundamentals

Grey literature can often be complex and overwhelming to search. UHN Library & Information Services is offering a workshop on Grey Literature Fundamentals. This workshop will define what grey literature is, and identify key literature sources, tools and search processes. Completing the workshop will enable you to plan and execute a well-documented and effective grey literature search.

Announcing the launch of the Cancer Digital Intelligence Program (CDI), a research and innovation program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The CDI program is launching the inaugural CDI Spark Award to support basic science research trainees. The award will support four (4) PhD candidates or Post-Doctoral Fellows by helping them leverage data science and machine learning expertise to uncover previously unseen trends in their data, in addition to providing $20,000 towards their yearly salary. The award application period opens on March 1, 2022.

Winterlight Labs is a fast-growing startup based in Toronto that is developing digital biomarkers to measure neurological and psychiatric conditions. Their machine learning based technology analyzes both the acoustics and content of speech and language, to help identify disease and quantify its severity.
