ORT Conference Participation Award

The submission period for the Office of Research Trainees (ORT) Conference Awards is now open. The ORT is pleased to offer a limited number of Conference Participation Awards to enable graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to participate in national and international conferences and share their research in oral and/or poster presentations. 

The value of individual awards will be up to $500 to be used for participation at conferences between May and August 2022.

Peer to Peer Workshop - Developing Smart Textiles for Healthcare: Textile Fundamentals

Smart textiles offer promising new opportunities to provide remote care to patients and reduce the impact on hospital resources. Choosing the right textile for the task is a critical part of developing wearable technology.

Join us for this Peer-to-Peer workshop where Dr. Kirsten Schaefer, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at KITE and lecturer at Ryerson University's School of Fashion, will present a snapshot of textile fundamentals from fibres to fabrics and highlight some helpful tips for incorporating textiles in wearable medical devices

PubMed Basics

UHN Libraries invites you to a workshop on PubMed Basics. This interactive and introductory online session will demonstrate effective PubMed searching techniques. During the session participants will learn to use PubMed features to build an effective search strategy; to select and manage search results; and to use clinical queries to retrieve targeted results.

Trainee Machine Learning Workshop

Join for a Translational Neurophysiology & Brain Stimulation Trainee Workshop on Machine Learning. The workshop will include information on different machine learning methods, optimization, & how to interpret results.

The workshop targets an audience that is seeking applied knowledge in these fields rather than a deep theoretical understanding.

S2BN: Exploring Careers in Government after Graduate School

Interested in learning about the different career opportunities in government for STEM-based graduate students? Join Science 2 Business Network (S2BN) London for a panel discussion and Q&A about different government careers available after grad school. The discussion will focus on showcasing various government jobs, such as policy advisor, scientific evaluator, and senior Regulatory Affairs Officer, and the skill sets needed to transition from the academic setting to a career in government!

UHN Women Virtual Event Celebrating International Women's Day

Life Science Career Expo 2022: Information Session
March 10 | 7:00 - 8:00 PM

The Life Sciences Career Development Society (LSCDS), Career Exploration and Education, and the University of Toronto are hosting an Information Session on the Life Sciences Career Expo (LSCE), which will take place virtually on Monday, May 9, Wednesday, May 11, and Friday, May 13, 2022. To bridge the gap between academia and industry, this expo will feature panelists and speakers from all over Canada and provide attendees with the opportunity to network with company representatives and career specialists from different regions.

Cancer Digital Intelligence Spark Award
Register by March 14

Applications are now open for the Cancer Digital Intelligence Spark Award. The award will support four PhD candidates or Post-Doctoral Fellows by helping them leverage data science and machine learning expertise to uncover previously unseen trends in their data, in addition to providing $20,000 towards their yearly salary. In addition to salary funding, trainees will gain access to tailored educational webinars, 1:1 coaching with specialists, research day events, and more.

Application opens March 1st and registration will close March 14th. The full application is due on April 15th. More information here
Amplitude Fellowships
Apply by March 30

Each year Amplitude Ventures runs a nation-wide search for six-to-eight candidates to join the Amplitude Fellowship for three months, June through August. These Fellows work in teams of two or three, in lockstep with leaders from Amplitude Ventures, to conduct a series of in-depth, one-month explorations to identify hypotheses for novel healthcare ventures.
