Welcome the ORT's new team member, Ornela Kljakic!

Ornela has recently joined UHN as the Youth Outreach Coordinator. She will focus on creating a centralized hub for youth outreach activities across UHN’s seven research institutes.

Prior to joining UHN, Ornela completed her Doctoral degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology (Neuroscience) at the University of Western Ontario. Ornela also holds a Bachelor of Medical Science degree with Honours Specialization in Medical Cell Biology from the University of Western Ontario, and a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning.

Ornela looks forward to working with all the research institutes to create and support initiatives that get youth excited about STEM. Welcome Ornela!

Live Spring Fling Cook-Along and Demo with ELLICSR  Kitchen Chef Geremy Capone

The UHN Postdoc Association in partnership with the ORT invites you participate in a live, interactive cooking session with UHN's ELLICSR Kitchen Chef Geremy Capone.

We are flinging into spring with a spring-themed menu to welcome a new season of rebirth, renewal, and growth, while saying goodbye to the winter blues. Come kickstart the spring season and join us virtually from your kitchen to learn some healthy new recipes and celebrate the art of food together!

Single cell RNA-seq analysis virtual workshop
March 24 | 9:30 - 11:30 AM

In collaboration with Dr Emilia Luca from Dr. Dabdoub's laboratory at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Biomage is hosting a virtual workshop on Cellenics, a user-friendly, open-source single cell RNA-seq data analysis tool that is free for academic researchers.

 At this virtual workshop you'll hear a presentation from Emilia about her single cell work on the inner ear, followed by an introduction to single cell RNA-seq analysis and hands-on experience of analyzing a topical SARS-CoV-2 dataset.

The Virtual Princess Margaret Seminar Series presents speaker Dr. Hong Han, semi-independent research fellow, Donnelly Centre, University of Toronto. The title of the talk is integrated single-cell approaches to dissect multilayer cell fate control in development and cancer.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Talk: Industry Partnerships, Inventions, Commercialization & Entrepreneurship U of T
March 24 | 3:00 - 5:00 PM 

Jennifer Fraser, Director of Innovations, U of T and Akshita Vincent, Business Development Officer - Industry Partnerships, U of T will be presenting “Industry Partnerships, Inventions, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship at U of T.”

By the end of this session, you will understand why and how industry engages with academia, how to recognize an invention with commercial potential, understand who has rights to that invention and how to advance the innovation process. We will also cover aspects of the patenting process and licensing intellectual property.

The MBP Career Development Association is honoured to host Dr. Jeff Stainsby, a Principal Scientist in the MR division at Synaptive Medical. Dr. Stainsby's will overview his career trajectory to give examples of where a degree in Medical Biophysics can lead and describe some details about the design and development of a novel MRI system that has been undertaken in Toronto.

Join the Science 2 Business Network's Kingston Chapter for an evening panel discussion featuring experienced professionals from scientific publishing houses. During this session, panelists will highlight how they embarked on their careers, what a day-in-life in a publishing house is like, how the field has changed in light of current events, e.g. COVID-19, and what advice they would give to those aspiring to leverage their academic skills to pursue a career in scientific publishing.

Case Competition for Graduate Trainees: Accelerating Accessibility in Healthcare

Join the GMCA’s case competition, Healthcare: Accelerating Accessibility, from March 28th – April 7th, 2022! This opportunity is designed for trainees who are interested in developing and applying their problem-solving skills to tackle real-life business challenges! During this 11-day virtual competition, participants will work in teams on a business case and present their strategy to judges from our partnering firms. This unique opportunity will help participants develop their consulting skills and gain transferrable industry experience while also learning from judges who have successfully transitioned into the industry.
