Congratulations to Zi Xuan Zhang on receiving a CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award! 

Zi is a first year PhD student co-supervised by Dr. Eli Sone and Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan at Krembil Research Institute. Zi is developing an injectable hydrogel for the delivery of mesenchymal stromal cells to repair critical sized bone defects.

Congratulations to Diana Nakib on receiving a CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award! 

Diana is a PhD student in the lab of Dr. Sonya MacParland at the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute. Diana uses multi-omic technologies to investigate the molecular underpinnings of autoimmune liver diseases, identify targets for immune cell repolarization, and promote organ regeneration.

Stats 101: Thinking, reading, and writing statistically

The Rotman Research Institute is hosting a stats workshop geared toward summer students. The workshop will introduce several key statistical concepts students will encounter in the course of their work, including means testing, correlation, and linear regression. The workshop will be reviewing how common univariate techniques are computed, interpreted, and presented in the literature.

All attendees are welcome. No background knowledge or software is necessary.

Research at Work: Policy for Science Transparency and Inclusion

The Toronto Science Policy Network (TSPN) is hosting a series of workshops called Research at Work: Science Policy 101. 

The first workshop, Policy for Science, will cover how science is governed and fostered in Canada, and specifically discuss the ways in which policymaking for science functions. Topics that may be covered include open science, scientific integrity, funding, and program development for equity, inclusion, and diversity. We will host two expert speakers, Dr. Mary-Rose Bradley-Gill and Dr. Masha Cemma, who will share their experience in working at NSERC and the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada respectively. Finally, using case studies, attendees will have a chance to engage in the process of developing policy for science.

Organoid Lunch & Learn Seminar Series

The Princess Margaret Living Biobank (PMLB) organoid core is a central repository of patient-derived tumour organoid (PDO) models. PMLB holds a monthly Organoid Core Lunch & Learn Seminar Series based on the continuing interest in organoid technology, for our current and future core users. Trainees and research staff from many institutes share their progress, challenges, and ideas on using organoid technology in their projects. These meetings take place on the fourth Thursday every month and each lab representative will have an opportunity to present their work. Theranostics Forum: Dosimetry in Practice
May 31 | 8:00 - 9:00 AM

UHN scientists and clinicians have a strong interest in the growing field of theranostics. This forum is intended to increase communication, facilitate cross-departmental collaboration, and build our capabilities in this area. Talks will focus on current research and unmet needs in the domain of theranostics and will be followed by open discussion to learn about and discover opportunities. The forums will take place monthly via MS TEAMS. 

Join for two talks: 
1. Optimizing dosimetry for personalized radiopharmaceutical therapy in real-world clinical practice by Dr. Jean-Mathieu Beauregard, MD, MSc, FRCPC. 

2. Improving personalized cancer medicine with individualized dosimetry for theranostics: lessons learned from a multi-site study by Brandon Driscoll M.A.Sc. and Dr. Ivan Yeung, PhD, FCCPM.

Machine Learning Challenge: General Information Session

Cancer Digital Intelligence is hosting an information session on their Machine Learning Challege: Cancer Image Segmentation. The Machine Learning (ML) challenge will engage scientists and clinicians in an open competition to explore their computational limitations in the space of object detection and contouring as it relates to medical imaging.

Canadian Computational Neuroscience Spotlight
June 6 - June 7 

The Canadian Computational Neuroscience Spotlight (CCNS) is a trainee-focused meeting which highlights cutting-edge computational neuroscience research, both in Canada and around the world, while providing unique learning, networking, and presentation opportunities for early-career researchers. The meeting is committed to remaining cost-accessible to the entire academic community, using the virtual setting to maximize accessibility for populations for which physical conferences present a challenge, and maintaining a diverse lineup of speakers during its continued evolution.

Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) is now accepting faculty project submissions for Summer 2023. 
 
Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is a competitive initiative for international undergraduates from the following countries and regions: Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Tunisia, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States. From May to October of each year, top-ranked applicants participate in a 12-week research internship under the supervision of Canadian university faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.
