Congratulations Kristen Ashworth, Jennifer Boateng, and Courtney Irwin on receiving CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarships Doctoral Research Awards (CGS-D)!
Kristen Ashworth is a PhD student in Dr. Brian Ballios' lab at Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute. Her research focuses on developing a human-based retinal organoid model using patient-derived stem cells to study cell therapies for inherited retinal diseases.
Jennifer Boateng is a PhD student in Dr. Karun Singh's lab at Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute. Jennifer's research focuses on how different cell types contribute to the pathogenesis of the 15q13.3 microdeletion syndrome, a rare disorder where deletion of 7 genes on chromosome 15 can lead to different neurodevelopmental disorders like autism, schizophrenia and ADHD.
Courtney Irwin is a PhD student in Dr. Karun Singh's lab at Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute. Courtney’s research focuses on sensory disorders, where she is using stem cell-derived organoid models to investigate autism risk genes and their effects on the sensory nervous system.
