Join the Research Professionals at UHN (RP@UHN) and members of the PiPER (Pride in Patient Engagement in Research) team on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM for a virtual panel discussion highlighting opportunities, innovations, and growth in patient-oriented research.
During this session, we will:

Panelist Bios:
Michael Voth
- Michael’s education includes an undergraduate degree in biology, a post-graduate certificate in clinical research, and Masters of Science in Public Health. Mike have been with UHN for many years supporting research quality as a Research Auditor, Research Quality Associate, Manager of Research Quality Integration, Senior Manager of Research Quality & Compliance. In his current role of Director Research Quality & Risk Management, Mike provides leadership in the planning, conduct and reporting of quality and risk management activities across UHN Research. His team provides strategic support, facilitates collaborations to coordinate UHN policy and standards for research conduct, develop and deliver training, performs internal quality audit and compliance activities to ensure they meet the expectations of our external funders, regulators and community for high quality research at UHN.
Erin Smith:
- Erin is a Research Associate on the PiPER team who is passionate about engagement and equity. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph and her Master’s in Public Health from McMaster University. Prior to joining the PiPER team, Erin worked for Timiskaming Health Unit in Northern Ontario as a Health Promoter in Health Equity. Erin enjoys spending her free time camping, trying new recipes, and cycling.
Lindsie Blencowe:
- Lindsie has a long history with UHN as both a clinical research associate and patient. She brings these perspectives to her role managing the PiPER digital portfolio. In this role, Lindsie strives to ensure the patient voice and perspective are incorporated into UHN’s digital research tools. Additionally, Lindsie works on initiatives to promote and share UHN research using plain language.
Matheus Wiest:
- Mat has been working with PiPER for one and a half years, managing the team operations. In partnership with other PiPER Team members, researchers and persons with lived experience, he helps to engage our communities in the research done at UHN. He has many years of experience working with basic and clinical research and planning and implementing changes to healthcare systems.
