Cross-Institute Research Mentorship Program

January - May 2027

The Cross-Institute Research Mentorship Program connects UHN graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with experienced mentors outside their own lab, ideally from another UHN institute. Organized by the UHN Postdoctoral Association (UHNPA) in collaboration with the Office of Research Trainees (ORT), the program offers additional support for career development, navigating UHN, and building connections across the research community.
Mentees can ask questions and explore their goals, while mentors share their experience and develop their mentorship and leadership skills.
Eligibility
  • Mentees: UHN MSc, PhD, and MD/PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, particularly those in their first one or two years at UHN.
  • Mentors: Experienced UHN postdoctoral researchers, scientists, scientific associates, principal investigators, clinician-scientists/investigators, and research staff.
Participation and Certificates
UHNPA coordinates mentor–mentee matching based on participants’ interests and preferences. Pairs commit to meeting at least once per month throughout the program, virtually, in person, or through a combination of both. Participants are expected to communicate respectfully and follow the ORT Code of Conduct.
Both mentors and mentees are eligible for a certificate upon meeting the participation requirements and submitting a final log of meeting dates and formats. Detailed or confidential meeting notes are not required.
