Project description: Addressing barriers to the built environment is the top priority highlighted by Canadians with disabilities, underscoring the need better define our indoor and outdoor public spaces. However, there is a lack of up-to-date Canadian data informing national accessibility standards. The proposed research will address this important knowledge gap through comprehensive evaluation of static and functional space requirements of various user groups (such as people who use wheeled mobility devices, canes or other mobility aids, people who are blind).

The goal of this research is to inform accessibility standards for the built environment across Canada, removing barriers for people with disabilities. You will be a member of the KITE Research Institute, University Health Network. More information on our lab can be found here:

Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Public Health, Occupational Sciences, Kinesiology, Architecture or other related field
• Completion of PhD within 5 years at the time of application
• Experience working with people with disabilities or chronic conditions is an asset
• Experience collecting lab-based data with human participants
• Advanced research experience, especially with data analysis
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong leadership and eagerness to develop project goals.
• Strong track-record of scholarly achievements, scientific publication and communication
• Organizational skills and effective time management
• Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
