The Penn lab is looking for an experienced and motivated scientist to spearhead projects focused on understanding the regulation, function and inhibition of the MYC oncoprotein. The applicant should have a strong scientific background, with knowledge of cancer biology, and expertise in a variety of biochemical and molecular biology techniques, including tissue culture, cloning techniques, genomics (e.g. chromatin immunoprecipitation, Cut’n’Run, RNA-seq), protein handling and bioactivity and functional assays.
The successful applicant will be expected to work both collaboratively and independently and will report directly to the PI. The applicant will be expected to contribute to the scientific development of the project and be able to investigate, design, and conduct research assays related to both fundamental research and therapeutic development. Working in a fast-paced environment, the applicant will be a biologist with strong cell biology/molecular biology experience who can multi-task and enjoy contributing to research at many levels. The lab is situated in the Princess Margaret Cancer Research Tower within the Toronto discovery district. Thus, the candidate will be part of a rich and vibrant scientific community.
Qualifications
- Recent completion of PhD (within five (5) years) in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology or related discipline
- Three (3) years or more experience in genomics and/or proteomics
- Experience in assay development, functional cell-based assays, cytotoxicity assays etc.
- Experience working with tissue culture and lentivirus
- Experience with DNA manipulation, i.e. PCR based mutagenesis, cloning etc.
- Experience working with mice would be an asset
- Experience in oncology/cancer malignancies would be an asset
- Exceptional organizational skills and team-work ethic
- Capable of multitasking with minimal direct supervision
