Introduction to Machine Learning in Python

The Office of Research Trainees and UHN Postdoc Association invite you to an interactive workshop with the Coding Hive.

Machine learning is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing fields in computer science, and it has the potential to revolutionize the way we solve problems and make decisions. However, many people are intimidated by the idea of machine learning because they think it requires advanced programming skills.

This workshop is designed for people who have little or no coding experience but want to learn the basics of machine learning. We will provide an introduction to machine learning and its applications as well as provide a deep dive into one of the most popular machine learning algorithms, the random forest.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • An introduction to decision trees and how they work
  • The concept of ensemble learning and how it improves model performance
  • How the random forest algorithm works and why it is effective
  • How to implement a random forest model in Python using the scikit-learn library
  • Best practices for tuning the hyperparameters of a random forest model

By the end of this workshop, you will have a good understanding of the fundamentals of machine learning and be able to use the scikit-learn library to implement simple machine learning models. You will also have a roadmap for further learning and be ready to dive deeper into the exciting world of machine learning.

Join us for an engaging and interactive workshop that will demystify machine learning and help you take the first step towards mastering this exciting field.

Tickets to this in person workshop are extremely limited and are only open to UHN students and postdoctoral researchers. Register now for only $30!
