Program Description

The Office of Research Trainees at UHN is delighted to announce the 2022 Summer Student Program. This program invites all UHN research summer students to attend a series of virtual learning sessions to help them develop critical research skills and explore their career options! UHN Summer Students will also have the opportunity to share their summer research with the UHN Research Community at the ORT Research Day.

All sessions will be held virtually and will be recorded. UHN Research Summer Students that attend at least 3 learning sessions and present at Research Day will be presented with a certificate of program completion. Students who missed learning sessions can watch the recordings and confirm their attendance here.

Learning Sessions and Research Day Details

Thursday May 19th from 12-1 pmWhere can you go with a science degree?

This learning session will help you to explore the different career options available to science students in the healthcare and research sectors. You’ll learn practical tips on how to explore your different career options and how to use networking and informational interviews to help achieve your career goals.

Thursday June 9th from 12- 1 pmEverything you need to know about grad school

This learning session will help you to explore everything that you need to know about graduate school. Hosted by graduate students at UHN, the session will cover topics such as how to choose the right grad program, how to choose the research area and supervisor to perform you research, and how to excel in research!

Friday June 24th from 1 – 2:30 pm LinkedIn and Resume workshop

This learning session is a collaboration between the Research Training Centers at UHN and Baycrest Hospital. In this two-part workshop, you’ll learn practical tips on how to optimize your LinkedIn profiles and how to craft a functional resume. Learn more and register here.

Thursday July 7th from 12 – 1 pm How to present your research

This interactive learning session will share the fundamentals of how to effectively communicate your summer research. Helpful tips and resources will be shared to help you to prepare your presentations for Research Day!

Thursday July 21th from 2-4 pm – Research Day

The ORT Research Day is a wonderful opportunity for UHN summer students to share their summer research with the UHN Research Community! Each summer student will have three minutes and one slide to share some of the things that they learned at UHN (just like Three Minute Thesis presentations). More detailed instructions and guidance on how to prepare the presentations will be provided at the “How to Present Your Research” session.

Other Important Information

The Learning Sessions are free and open to everyone. The learning sessions will be recorded and shared with participants. All attendees are asked to make sure they have read and agree to abide by the ORT’s Code of Conduct.
