The UHN Office of Research Trainees invites you to a Zoom webinar on Research Innovation and Commercialization at UHN by licensing and commercialization professional, Allan DeBono.

UHN is Canada’s medical research commercialization leader, turning research discoveries into ground-breaking medical products, devices and therapies that improve patient lives. In this webinar, you’ll learn about the commercialization process involved at UHN, including building an understanding of intellectual property, patents, and licensing. The workshop will also highlight resources and support available to entrepreneurs through Commercialization at UHN.

Speaker Bio:

Allan holds a Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology from UBC. He worked as a synthetic biologist at a private biotech firm in Burnaby British Columbia. There, he engineered a novel yeast to have enhanced xylose consumption. Allan contributed to three patents. After biotech, he went to the Sauder School of Business at UBC to pursue an MBA and started consulting for Vancouver area businesses in biotechnology and the internet of things/AI spaces. Allan worked at the Rotman School of Management’s Creative Destruction Lab where he led the Health Diagnostics Stream and founded the Biomedical Engineering Stream. At UHN, Allan work with world leading researchers at Princess Margaret, facilitating agreements and assisting with commercialization matters.
