The UHN Summer Training and Research (STAR) program includes learning sessions, a research day, and certificate of program completion. This program is designed to enhance your research and professional development skills while at UHN! The program is open to all UHN summer research students, including those in paid, co-op, and volunteer positions.

The ORT has partnered with Research Training Centres at participating Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN) hospitals; Toronto Metropolitan University; and University of Toronto to provide the Postdoc to Research Faculty Crash Course! This initiative aims to address the need for comprehensive support for postdocs as they embark on their journey toward applying and securing a research faculty position.

Every spring the ORT offers the Developing Effective Mentoring Skills program, to provide UHN graduate students and postdoctoral researchers an opportunity to enhance their skills to prepare for mentoring summer research students.

The mentoring training covers many themes including: Effective Communication, Aligning Expectations, Addressing Equity & Inclusion and Promoting Professional Development. Participants who attend all sessions receive a certificate of program completion.

The ORT partners with University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) to provide a Carpentries Instructor Training Program. The Carpentries teaches foundational coding and data science skills to researchers worldwide.

Through this program, UHN graduate students and postdoctoral researchers receive Carpentries Instructor Training to learn evidence-based training practices. They are also provided opportunities to build their skills teaching data and software workshops, with support from certified Carpentries instructors and the ORT staff.

The Life Sciences Career Development Syndicate at the University of Toronto is a student initiative created to bridge the gap between academia and industry. They host career seminars, networking symposiums, case studies, mentorship programs and more! Explore their offerings here.

The Science to Business Network (S2BN) is pan-Canadian organization that bridges the gap between science and business. S2BN organizes outreach and networking events for graduate students to complement their academic training.
